Tips for creating a good pitch
Send a pitch with an outline and appropriate sources.
Corroborate all facts with reliable sources. No Wikipedia, please. Please cite all your sources. If the source is a link, you may hyperlink it to the relevant text.
Write in a casual tone, and make your content useful, relevant, and timely. Note that the tone of this blog is casual and light, but also informational and inspirational.
Use examples and anecdotes to clarify your points.
Show how Idea Crib’s readers will benefit from your post.
The more in line your pitch is with my blog’s identity and voice, the higher the chance of it getting accepted.
If you have published works, please send me links to them as well so that I may gauge your writing style.
I publish every other Wednesday. If your pitch gets accepted, expect it to go live within 2-8 weeks.
Guest Writer Agreement
I require all guest writers to sign a Guest Writer Agreement.
A post should be between 500-1500 words.
Again, note that the tone of this blog is casual and light, but also informational and inspirational.
Include a title that attracts interest, but don’t make it click-bait.
Make your introduction interesting so that it encourages the reader to read further.
Please divide your post into a few sections with subheadings. Please add a subheading after every 300-500 words.
Use a bold font for key sentences.
Create a bulleted list if necessary.
Have a conclusion with a call-to-action.
I do not accept all pitches. The average review time is two weeks. If you do not hear from me after a month, consider your pitch rejected. (Sorry!)
Offer links to at least 2-3 copyright-free images that can be used for your post. Please cite the image sources. You may also send me your own images if you’re okay with me using them. I will credit you as their owner.
Please do not send complete drafts. Just send pitches with outlines first.
No plagiarism, please. I will Copyscape everything.
I reserve the right to edit the body copy, headlines, subheadings, etc. of the post for greater clarity, grammar, punctuation, etc. or as I deem fit.
All links should be hyperlinked to the relevant text. I will vet all links. No sales-y pages, please. I reserve the right to delete links that are too self-promotional, manipulative and/or immaterial to the topic.
All sources should also be listed at the end of the post.
If you mention a company or organization that you’re affiliated with in your post, please include a disclosure. That said, I will delete lines and paragraphs that are veiled advertisements.
Please include the phrase Red Fanny Surfer in the subject line of your pitch.
Promotion and engagement
Guest writers are highly encouraged to promote their guest posts in Idea Crib to their social networks.
Once the post goes live, please be prepared to respond to any comments.
All contributors will get a byline.
All contributors may add a short bio with links to their public profiles. A bio should be between 50-200 words only. I reserve the right to edit bios and remove text and links that are self-promotional and/or manipulative. Here’s an example of a bio I will accept: “Marta James is a digital media expert and mother of two. She is also a licensed broker currently affiliated with X Real Estates. She is passionate about property development and all things digital. Contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.” Here’s an example of a bio I will edit liberally: “Marta James is a digital media expert and mother of two. She is also a licensed broker currently affiliated with X Real Estates. X’s luxurious ABC Twin Towers, located right across the posh BB neighborhood, is pre-selling its 2-bedroom units right now at massive discounts. Tower 1 has already been sold out as of June 2017. Tower 2 is currently selling like pancakes. Call (0900 000 0000) or email (email@example.com) her before the end of the month and get even more discounts (she might even be able to throw a freebie or two!)! Hurry! These properties are hot, hot, HOT!!” You catch the drift. 🙂
I reserve the right to delete a guest post that has been previously published in Idea Crib. That said, contributors reserve all rights to their guest post/s and contributed photos. All contributors may republish their post/s elsewhere 90 days after first being published in this blog.
I reserve the right to edit or delete parts of the body copy, headlines, subheadings, etc. of the post for greater clarity, grammar, punctuation, etc. or as I deem fit. I reserve the right to edit or delete links that are too self-promotional, manipulative and/or immaterial to the topic. If I accept a link for publication but then discover later on that it’s been redirected to a spammy page, I will delete the said link without prior notice.
