A List of Diabetic-Friendly Restaurants and Food Services in the Philippines
While attending a diabetes awareness event last month, I realized how hard it must be to dine and be merry – especially this Christmas season! – if you have diet restrictions. That’s the inspiration for this biweekly post. I hope this list will help you discover healthy and yummy food choices especially if you have a pre-existing condition like diabetes.
Please remember that it’s always best to consult a trusted doctor or nutritionist if you have any medical concerns.
Diabetic-friendly restaurants and food services
|Diabetic Diet Manila||A meal delivery service that caters specifically to people with diabetes.|
|The Diabetes Store||A one-stop shop for people with diabetes in the Philippines.|
|Satinka Naturals||A vegan and vegetarian restaurant and coffee shop that serves diabetic-friendly food.|

|The Sexy Chef||A healthy meal delivery service. Messaged them and they said, “Depending on the type of diabetes and client situation, as well as the approval of their physicians and nutritionists, we do have meal plans that we recommend to our diabetic clients.”|

|Dr. Tam’s Vegan Haus||“Located at Pasig City, this resto is established by a doctor who has committed to helping and providing an alternative place to eat for health buffs that fits well for diabetic people. Aside from nutritious food, it also offers other health products and hosts free health lectures,” says the blog All About Diabetes. (P.S. The reviews say the overall dining experience here is just average. The veggie soup is supposed to be really good.)|

|Bodhi Vegetarian Health Food|
A vegetarian fast food restaurant found in the food court area of several SM malls such as SM North Edsa, SM Megamall, SM Southmall, SM City Manila, and SM Cubao.
They don’t seem to have contact details. They seem to be one of the most convenient options, though. Their operating hours are mall hours.
|Sugarleaf (now EarthOrigins Marketplace+Cafe)||A multi-cuisine restaurant serving healthy fare. It’s another recommendation from All About Diabetes: “Formerly known as Butchie’s, Sugarleaf…has become popular for its healthy menus that are safe for diabetic people such as a bowlful of organic oats, Pumpkin and Carrot Soup, slow-pressed Detox Juice, and Garden Fresh Salad. It also offers Free-range Chicken Sandwich and Turkey Waldorf which is a great snack for diabetics.” (P.S. The reviews seem to be positive, but take note that these are a few years old.)|

|Harvest Philippines||A health food store that also offers meal plans. Messaged them and they said their meals were diabetic-friendly because they “don’t use processed sugar.”|

Compiling this list was a bit hard, by the way. Also, I couldn’t find diabetic-friendly restos in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. (If you’re a diabetic from these regions, do check out the websites below.) It must be tricky for Filipino diabetics to grocery shop or dine out!
Not from or in the Philippines? Stumbled upon these cool resources of diabetic-friendly recipes:
Diabetes is not a dietary death sentence, says Diabetic Foodie. Hopefully these links will help you figure out what’s best for you.
