If Nancy Drew were a fitness junkie

I had a hard time thinking of what to write about this week, so I decided to get my brain off autopilot mode for a while and composed a fitness-themed poem based on the Nancy Drew mysteries I read as a child. I figure this writing prompt challenge can be considered a form of brain exercise (which Reader’s Digest says keeps one’s brain healthy and sharp). Tell me your honest thoughts about it! 🙂

If Nancy Drew were a fitness junkie

by Patricia Mirasol

If Nancy Drew were a fitness junkie, she’d hop on a mystery as quickly as she’d hop on a SoulCycle experience.

She’d have found the hidden Stair Climber by way of solving the secret of the old clock,

Whereafter she’d leave every one’s head scratching: how did she figure out how that old equipment shaped the rules at the infamous Lilac Gym?

If Nancy Drew were a fitness junkie, she’d sleuth with as much gusto as she’d work out.

No clue in any food diary nor any password to any lane, Larkspur or otherwise, would dampen her resolve.

Broken lockets, jewel boxes, and ivory charms would only serve to jog her memory as well as a five-kilometer recovery run.

If Nancy Drew were a fitness junkie, a haunted bridge would prove a delicious invitation to an outdoorsy adventure.

Willows and witch trees and the strange whispers of a statue be damned; if there’s a mystery, you can bet this teen detective’s on to it

(the loyal ministrations of her best pals Bess Marvin and George Fayne notwithstanding!).

If Nancy Drew were a fitness junkie, then Ned Nickerson would most certainly be one too.

Giving their abs a little lovin’ would be no less as invigorating a date as ski jumping over a phantom on Pine Hill,

The transformative exhilaration of their exercises a boon to their relationship.

If Nancy Drew were a fitness junkie, then Carlson Drew and Hannah Gruen would’ve been indoctrinated on the benefits of meditation too.

You can almost see all three humming the stresses of double jinxes and triple hoaxes away at the end of the day.

Carolyn Keene would’ve approved.

Did you also read Nancy Drew as a child? Do you recall any of your favorite Nancy Drew mysteries? 🙂
